I'm looking for some help/advice on Mac video cards. I've got a Mac II
and an NEC MultiSync XL. I need a video card which will allow me to use
the NEC monitor with my Mac II.
The NEC MultiSync XL is designed for use with (and comes with a video
card for) the IBM PC. It is a 19" monitor which will display 2^24 colors
and up to 1024 x 768 pixels. And, as the name implies, it is a multisynch
monitor, so it can handle a wide range of horizontal and vertical synch
rates (although, I do not know its bounds right now).
What I'm looking for is a video card which will give me as much resolution
as possible, preferably the full 1024 x 768. I like color, but it's not
necessary (I know: what a waste of a good monitor). Finally, the card must
be available for under $1000.
I've tried several computer stores. They're either too narrow minded
(we don't sell NEC monitors) or too ignorant (you can't use that monitor
with a Mac) or both. I even tried calling RasterOps (yes, we have frame
grabbers for the Mac, but what is a video card?), and NEC (sure, we have a
video card for that monitor; is the Macintosh an AT-style or MicroChannel
bus?).
I'm certain that there are several video cards which do what I want,
but I can't find them. All help will be appreciated.
Thanx,
