[comp.sys.mac] MacConnection & After Dark

danno@eleazar.dartmouth.edu (Secret Squirrel) (11/29/89)

I thought I would share another positive story about the people over
at MacConnection. I called Monday night at 11:30, because I only had
the number around and not the magazine I had gotten it from. I forgot
that they were here in New Hampshire, and thought I might get an answer
because of a time difference to somewhere out West where it wasn't so late.

It turns out I got them on their first night of keeping the order lines
open until =1:00AM, EST.= Apparently the only people they keep around are order
takers, so if you've got extensive questions, call back earlier in the
day. I also got someone who was on her first night "officially" taking
calls; I don't know whether it was her first time, or her first "night",
but she was more than friendly. Even when I transposed 2 digits in
an item number, and trying to be friendly, mentioned their photos in
the ads (oops! MacWarehouse!). She said it would probably ship on
Wedneday. No big deal; how urgent is After Dark, some floppies and a
TurboMouse?

Speaking of After Dark...
How easy is it to follow their "technical info." to make my own new
screensavers? I've been reading since June and have seen no mention.
Have I missed something? I don't even remember it in the magazines.

One interesting note: Terry at MacConnection seemed really confused
when she asked where I heard about them, and I said "Ads in magazines,
and you've been given high marks on Usenet/Internet." I tried briefly
to explain it...

That's intersting danno. I had a chance to talk to the Sales Manager
from MacWarehouse when she called the computer store here a few weeks
ago. I just happened to mention all of the heated debate that
MacWharehouse had been getting on the Usenet/Internet news network
because of their name and their method of advertising.
Bad move. I spent about 5 minutes {no exaggeration} trying to explain
what the hell Usenet, Internet, and comp.sys.mac were! In the end she
just gave up. I had completely lost her before I even began.
I would figure that these companies, if not at least *one* of their
employees would know about the net and comp.sys.mac. But I guess we're
just too secret a society here... *heh*
