Recently I went through the process of downloading the Adobe screenfonts for the Apple laserwriter. Then, using FontHarmony (and following instructions to a "T" like a good little Mac'er) I removed the structure problems, converted N-type fonts, and then harmonized the mess. They work WONDERFUL except... When I converted the original suitcases, I used the trick (documented with FontHarmony) of copying everything into a new suitcase in order to keep the orphan fonts (eg. 7 and 9 point Helvetica, 9 point Times, etc.). They came through and everything seems to be correct except for the spacing between lines of text when using these fonts is much larger than it should be. Furthermore, the inter-line spacing for other non defined sizes (eg. Helvetica 6 point) is ALSO too large. If I use Font/DA mover to remove these orphan fonts (eg. Helvetica 7 and 9 point sizes), All the interline spacings (including those for Helvetica 6) go back to a proper value. Questions: 1) Is there any way that I can fix this inter-line spacing problem without having to remove the small fonts? I really do like to be able to "read the fine print"! (especially on my screen) 2) Why does the presence of a 7 point font seem to effect the usage of a non existent font (eg 6 point)? Maybe I did not quite follow the instructions and this is a result of a mistake when I built the N-FONT families. If anyone has any ideas on this, I would really appreciate hearing from you. -- Jeff Wiseman: ....uunet!tellab5!wiseman OR wiseman@TELLABS.COM
