Posted for a friend. Please respond to "pslvax!rupp@ucsd.edu." Thank you. (regarding Paradise 10 MB serial hard drive) it is not possible to boot from that disk. However, once a floppy has been booted and a special startup application is executed, the hard disk takes over with its own system (unless, as has been the case with me, one is booting from another hard disk, in which case the Paradise Mac10 just behaves like a mounted disk). Okay, so far so good. Unfortunately, the system that came with the disk is very old. I tried to update the system, which must have been too much for the old dear. Now when I run the "Start Paradise" application from the boot floppy, the Paradise tries to activate its system (how do you like that really technically correct term?) but bombs. I get a system error ID = 23. Perhaps it was unwise to try to update the system on the Paradise. I do know that I was having trouble creating a boot disk that worked properly, and in the process of experimenting, I ran a Paradise utility that showed that the **System partition (which was formatted by the manufacturer) had a flat file structure, and the other partition (which I created while running system 6.something) was hierarchical. As I recall, I was able to activate the Paradise once or twice *after* installing system 6.0.2 before the bombs started falling, but my recollection may be wrong. This makes my plans to sell my system uncertain. I would appreciate it if you could post a query to the net asking if anyone have any suggestions as to how to wake up the Paradise Mac10 under the circumstances. (I have contacted Western Digital, who bought out Paradise, and OOOH, THE RUNAROUND I GOT! Suffice it to say that the only one of their staff who knows anything about it is out sick today.)
