The finder uses a long word in this resource to store the directory id
of the application.  I don't know what the other two bytes are used for,
though.

My guess is that it is the resource ID of the BNDL resource that 
corresponds to the applications (as stored in the Desktop file).  The 
Finder copies these resources from the application and has to renumber 
them.

Remember, this is only a guess. :-)
