Anyone out there got/seen the new game from Electronic Arts called "Halls of Montezuma", a strategy war-game similar to a board game? MacWorld - Dec 89 issue has a review of it and says it is good. But I want to know what you think of it... If you have it or seen it, please post or e-mail an evaluation of what you think of it. The graphics are well done and most of the work of handling multiple divisions has been streamlined. The number of scenarios is kind of limited, though, and I haven't seen any new ones get posted on GEnie yet. The game comes with a subscription to a magazine about the game system which is supposed to include new scenarios. This would get maile from Australia. Unlike many strategy games, HoM does a good job reflecting morale and supply effects. If you surround a regiment, and wear them down a bit, they fold up under the next serious attack. There is also a VERY complete game editor with which you can model just about any kind of battle you can think of. I've been considering manually porting some of the scenarios from UMS to HoM and seeing how they turn out. There are a few problems though. Getting troops to move where you want them to go isn't always easy - or even possible. This makes wide flanking moves difficult at times. Sometimes the game seems to forget about a stray batallion or two and it just gets left in the dust behind the main advance. Some of the scenarios don't appear winable in the time allowed - or I'm missing something. It also is very tough to reassign a divisions objectives in-play. Once they finish dusting whoever they fight, they seem to go back to their default objectives instead of the ones you gave them a few turns ago. This makes for a lot of lost time which can be costly. All in all a good game though. Most scenarios take only an hour or tow to finish - I just wish there were more of them. -MSM ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mark S.
