[comp.sys.mac] Xerox vs. Apple

CXT105@PSUVM.BITNET (Christopher Tate) (12/17/89)

Has it occurred to anyone else that one motivation for Xerox in filing a suit
against Apple might be to encourage Apple to drop charges against Microsoft
and Hewlett-Packard?

Seems to me that the free distribution of "technological advancement" is a
reasonably praiseworthy goal :-) !

At any rate, there is precedent for this sort of thing: TSR Hobbies, the
makers of the "Dungeons and Dragons" fantasy role-playing game systems, once
tried to sue some other game design company over using "TSR's material," such
as the fantastic creatures, etc. J. R. R. Tolkien promptly filed suit against
TSR, charging that they had appropriated concepts such as the "hobbit"
without permission. TSR dropped the charges, whereupon Tolkien did as well.

(Three cheers for supporting the _public_ rather than the _pocketbook_!)
