I have a two-year old CMS MacStack-40 external hard disk which has been behaving funny for almost a year now. During a given session, the read/write indicator light (which blinks only during a read or a write) occasionally stays continuously lit and the disk stops communicating with the Mac Plus. Sometimes this happens during power-on also. Fortunately, I have been able to get the disk working by simply shutting it down, shaking the scsi cable once or twice and then turning the disk on again. This usually works. When this procedure fails, I simply disconnect the disk from the Mac Plus and immediately reconnect it; the disk then works flawlessly. I had sent the disk back to CMS twice when it was under warranty. Both the times it came back with "no fault found" label. I don't know whether the disk has gone bad or whether the scsi cable needs to be replaced. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem ? Is this a common problem with CMS disks ?? I'd appreciate any suggestion, comments or information regarding this. Please reply by email. Thanks. Prashant. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prashant Gandhi | gandhi@pender.ee.upenn.edu Department of Electrical Engineering |---------------------------------- University of Pennsylvania | Celebrate your local Philadelphia, PA 19104 | Computer Appreciation Day ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check your termination (either too much or too little). Adding a terminator fixed a CMS 140 Mbyte drive of mine that exhibited similar symptoms.
