My father has been using AppleWorks on an Apple II+ and Apple //c for years but is finally ready to take the plunge and buy a Mac SE. The service technician at his local dealership told him that his Apple "Scribe" printer would work fine with the SE. For those unfamiliar with it, the Scribe is a serial printer Apple markets for the Apple II line which uses either thermal paper or a thermal transfer ink ribbon. Now I realize that technically any printer will "work" on a Mac in draft (text) mode, but is there really a print driver that will let the Scribe work like an ImageWriter? He could afford the ImageWriter II, but he likes the Scribe since it is quiet and he works late at night in an apartment house. No, I don't think he's ready to invest in a LaserWriter yet :-) Anyway, can someone shed some light on this? I believe that "Grappler" made a converter box-cable gizzmo once which claimed to let you use all kinds of printers with a Mac. Is this still available? Would it work with the Scribe? Would prefer response by email if possible... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boyd Ostroff, Technical Director ||||||| System Administrator, "The CallBoard" Theatre Department, SUNY Oswego ||||||| Serving the performing arts since 1986 (315) 341-2987 ||||||| (315) 947-6414 300/1200/2400 baud 8N1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ostroff@oswego.Oswego.EDU ...!rutgers!rochester!kodak!gizzmo!cboard!ostroff
