As promised in December, following is a little blurb about Apple's new technical journal for developers from the editor in chief's clothing... ***** Apple's got a new technical journal called d e v e l o p. It's code-level technical, comes out quarterly, goes to Certified developers, Partners, and Associates, and is available on a subscription basis. The first issue will be out in mid-January and will be sent to the above groups as part of their program fees. APDA members will receive this issue as a one-time only deal. The premier issue includes: Realistic Color for Real-World Applications by Bruce Leak, All about the Palette Manager by Dave Van Brink, Braving Offscreen Worlds by Guillermo Ortiz, the Perils of PostScript by Scott "Zz" Zimmerman, Compatibility: Rules of the Road by Dave Radcliffe, and Apple II Development Dynamo by Eric Soldan. You can think of d e v e l o p as heavily commented sample code (we do). Every issue includes a CD-ROM with the journal (searchable, of course), and all the sample code for cut-and-paste ease. For more information about the first issue (like where you can get a copy if you're not in one of the above groups), you can write directly to the editor: Louella Pizzuti 20525 Mariani Avenue, M/S 75-3B Cupertino, CA 95014 USA AppleLink: Pizzuti1 Internet: Pizzuti1@AppleLink.Apple.Com Or, if you're a talented engineer who likes to write code and/or English (bilingual preferred), who wants to help make writing software and developing hardware for the Macintosh and the Apple II even easier, then send your qualifications (and your favorite jokes) to Louella and she'll get back to you about job opportunities. ***** As a side note, the Apple II Development Dynamo which is discussed in great length by Eric Soldan in the first issue is available on Apple.com for FTP. Following is a short description: The new Dynamo 8-bit Development Package from DTS makes developing software for the Apple II family easier and faster. Dynamo includes a run-time library with a macro interface and an Apple II application loader and builder. If offers routines for handling strings, variables, arrays, and integer math. Dynamo needs MPW, along with MPWIIGS cross development package. -- Mark B. Johnson AppleLink: mjohnson Developer Technical Support domain: mjohnson@Apple.com Apple Computer, Inc.
