I appear to have discovered an incompatibility between the 32bit Quickdraw init (32QD) and Hypercard. If I have installed the 32QD init, set my monitor to 1 bit/pixel, Black & White and invoke Hypercard, the system crashes. If I remove the init or if I set my monitor to 8 bit, color, Hypercard is more or less fine. You may not care about it, but I was running at least one stack that told Mac II users to switch to B&W mode to make the animation work properly. Related problem: Invoking the Apple CD-ROM Explorer stack will normally crash, no matter what your monitor bit depth is, if 32QD is present. However, even if I remove the 32QD init, the StarDate demo will not work. I can get the SE version of StarDate to work, but neither the B&W or Color version will work on a Mac II. (I have not tried a IIX). It is possible that a later version of the 32QD init fixes this problem, but I have not heard of the problem or any fixes for any bugs to 32QD. I hope this problem is not present in the version of 32QD in the IIci ROMs. Pertinant information: 6.0.3 Finder, Hypercard 1.2, 1.2.1, 1.2.2, Tested on: Mac II with Radius 19" w/ Radius Directcolor/24 & Radius Graphics Accelerator 32 bit QD version 1.0 of 5/8/89 distributed by DTS, Also tested on: Mac IIx with Apple 13" w/ RasterOps 264, but not sure of the 32QD version here. "Finder's Fee" to Apple for this (if it is truely a bug): Send me an update? Jim Cook Principal Software Engineer, Prime Computer, 500 Old Conn.
