I've been asked to recommend a bibliographic database program for a large bibliography (10000 items +). It's supposed to aid the classification and retrieval of articles. It must allow fields for title, authors, year, etc., and keywords. It should be fast and RELIABLE, and allow searches by keyword and searches for arbitrary strings within a field. I experimented programming a bibliographic database with Omnis 3 and 4D several years ago. I was disgusted. Maybe they are better now ? Or maybe someone can recommend another good general purpose database? I considered Hypercard, but it has the reputation of being wasteful of space, and too slow. How much space for 10000 records, and how long to search them? I once tried out PBS, and found it nice, but I don't know how it would scale up. Then there's this program called PSI that just came thru the net. Is it what I need? Please answer by e-mail (I don't read this newsgroup: I grep it!). If I get interesting information, or if anyone requests me to I'll post a summary. Alain de Cheveigne, alain@atr-la.atr.co.jp
