[comp.sys.mac] MacConnection scores another first

ajq@mace.cc.purdue.edu (John O'Malley) (01/04/90)

Anyone else notice the MacConnection ad in Macworld's January issue?

It's 33 pages long! From page 56 to 89!

MacConnection has never ceased to amaze me. Even when they're not flying
at warp speed (e.g. their recent computer problems), they still manage to
fly by the others.

I just received an order from MacConnection. There was no evidence of computer
problems. When I called, they knew what was in stock. The person on the phone
was pleasant. The order indeed arrived the next day. I would not hesitate to
order from them at this time since it seems that the problems are behind them.

Yes, but who really wants to read the whole MacConnection catalog in a
magazine. Especially when so many people already get the cataog (like me!)
I hope this dosn't turn into a war of how many paes of your catalog can YOU
print in MacUser. I can do 30.....well i can do 50...arg!

I have recently placed three separate orders with MacConnection and
each time had no
problem. The worst that happened was one day I called at 5 PM and they
told me they
were behind on their orders and it would be shipped the next morning.
Sure enough it was.

I've looked at the ads for the other places but MacConnection almost
always meets or beats the
price. They have my vote.

Just my $0.02 regarding MacConnection.

I have used both MacConnection and MacWarehouse. Their prices are
comparable (and often a dollar or two less than their most recent
advertisements indicate). Both have phones staffed by competent
people. Both tend to put me on hold when I call, but only for a
minute or so. Both have bill-only-when-shipped policies, great return
policies, etc.

Differences:

When I get a package from MacConnection, and I'm not home when it
arrives, it has been left in the door. With MacWarehouse, I get a
note with a phone number to call to authorize the carrier to leave it
in the door the next day. Since I work during the day, the latter is
a major nuisance. [I don't know if this is due to different default
instructions to their carriers, or just random chance on a small
sample.]

The last time I used MacWarehouse because I was interested in their
FREE disk with every order. Well, guess what? The disk was free, but
they want an extra buck or two "shipping charge" to stick it in with
the rest of your shipment! Not much money, but I don't like the smell.

So I think MacConnection is #1, but MacWarehouse is a reasonable
second choice if MacConnection doesn't have what I want.
