The filters provided are, as you say, crap.  Also, if the correct filter specs
were known, amendments could have been made in software (as you pointed out).

A good place to look for filters would be a professional stage lighting shop;
drop in and ask if they can help you with some acetate filters.  These acetates
are very sturdy (they _are_ intended to live in front of several thousand watts
of light-bulb!) and as such are a bit pricey, but they have every colour
imaginable.
