On a tangent (please no flame-throwers!), someone mentioned that
educational discount "clearing houses" offer better discounts than magazines
ever do. This is quite true. In fact, I dealt with one such place when
orderinging several different titles.
I began to receive all 4 subscruptions, but decided to cancel the most
expensive one when I got the first bill (always looks less before you get
the bill). I notified the clearing house, not the magazine, by just leaving
a little note on the (partially paid) bill.
The story ends that I got back a really nice letter from the house, saying
that they had cancelled my subscription, but that I might still receive an
issue or two. "PLEASE KEEP THESE ISSUES WITH OUR COMPLIMENTS."
I was very impressed, and ended up getting 3 issues of the cancelled
subscription without paying a dime for them.
