[comp.sys.mac] Flames and things

art@loral.UUCP (Earthman Arthur Donavan) (01/12/90)

This is interesting - Grown people griping about other computer systems.

I noticed something about the TEXT type files on my Mac. They are usualy a
documentation file for an application that I have downloaded. I read it once,
the first time, and then very rarely after that. It is the same with the
downloads that I get for my AT. It is easier to "type" the documentation
file out on the AT, but the Mac is more fun.

There was a comment about "using the right tool for the job", or something
like that. DOS runs well on a PC, System/Finder runs well on a Mac, UNIX
runs well on a VAX (and others like SUN). So what. Here at work we have UNIX
machines, DOS machines, and I use a Mac, because it is more fun, and also I
am not in the position to get one of the new Sparkstations. (sigh)

How do you know that Mr. Cray is not stupid? I am not saying that he is, or is
not, but I know he can't be, to get where he is now. Maybe I am. I think the
Mac is more fun.

Sorry, I have not used a Amiga. Hear they are great. Sounds like a Sun run-
ning X windows. Hey I can login on multiple machines with a Sun - One in a
different window, and each multitasking. Not bad for productivity. Oh it
uses a bugaboo - Command Line Interface. Where are the radio buttons, check
boxes, and plain buttons. Look they are in the aplicatons. Menus too. I
moved to far on this tangent. I still think the Mac is more fun.

Yes I actually own an IBM AT clone, and a Mac. Which do I prefer? Neither,
and both. The AT is really helpful for my homework, but the Mac is more fun.
I know more about the AT hardware, and DOS, and can get to the nitty gritty
when programming it. The Mac hardware is very simple (I see Apple II stuff
in there), but that OS is a behemoth. (Oh yea 512Ke up to 2M w/ SCSI.) I can
program it, but only using a higher level language. (Pascal.)

In summary;

I may be stupid, etc. for embracing DOS and PCs, however the Mac is more fun
than worring about what other people think. I just wish someone would tell
that journalist not to use a screwdriver to remove a floppy. Don't tell us
here in netland - Tell that guy! (Another "k" command for that one.)

			Sincerely;
