[comp.sys.mac] Terminal Emulator as Desk Accesory

ens@ccu.umanitoba.ca (01/13/90)

Is there a desk accessory that functions as a simple terminal emulator?
Is there an archive of pd software that accepts mail commands?

I know of two. "VT100 DA" crashes my Mac when it's opened; "Terminal DA"
works great, emulates a VT102, has no problem with 9600 baud, and I now use it
for everything except online conferences and file transfers.

I don't know if either is at Sumex; I can try to send Terminal DA (if I can
ever get through to comp.binaries.mac! "Cheq" is still waiting!).

Werner: There's a terminal DA in CE Software's MockPackage shareware
offering, and I have a couple others I've collected but never actually
tried, so yes, they exist. Work well, too. There are quite a few small
shareware term programs about, as well. You could use one of these under
MultiFinder even without loads of RAM. One, called simply Terminal 1.7,
even has a C-like scripting language. Any of the major services or local
BBS's should have a nice assortment.

Dunno about mail commands, though. -Russ

The MockPackage includes several DAs, including a small text processor (max
file size = 28K), a simple terminal emulator, and several other very nice
little utilities (LaserStatus (direct access to an AppleTalk LaserWriter),
EZMenu (pops 'em down for you), Aask (which turns DAs off and on on the fly),
etc.). $35... cheap.
