There have been a rash of requests for information on uucp for the mac in both comp.sys.mac and in comp.sys.mac.programmer lately. I have tried to answer some of the questions as time allows. I have also received numerous requests from folks to mail them either the sources or binaries or both. You should all be aware that Alen (the person primarily responsible for the port), has posted both the sources and the binaries to comp.binaries.mac. I know this because I saw a note from him in comp.sys.mac regarding this a while ago. It is in the queue (hopefully), so be patient. I am currently using Alen's uupc-mac port and have been for some time now. It has worked quite well for me at 300, 1200, 2400 and 9600 bps. Unlike the old versions, this one was compiled under Symantec's THINK C 4.0 and provides a standalone application with a 'slave' mode that really works. Like the old versions, the mail front-end is a port of the *nix like 'mail' program PCMAIL and is not what I would call user friendly ;^) or complete, but it does the job. In my spare time (dont seem to have much these days), I have been working on getting a subset of the elm mailer running on the Mac. Dont hold your breath, as I said, I havent had much time to work on it. If anyone is working on similar projects, I would be interested in hearing about it. Hope this helps. If you have further questions, I will try to answer them. Feel free to drop me a note. _________________________________________________________________________ Randy Thompson | uunet!smsdpg!rht -- Office SMS Data Products Group, Inc. | uunet!smsdpg!tailchasr!rht -- Mac@home 703/648-9400 | _________________________________________________________________________ * Constructive criticism is always appreciated * Send Flames to: Trash%tailchasr@smsdpg.UUCP _________________________________________________________________________
