[comp.sys.mac] Need an accelerator for a SE

mxmora@unix.SRI.COM (Matt Mora) (01/15/90)

I'm looking for an accelerator for a SE and would
like to know if anyone has experice with any.

How much are they and how much faster do they run?

Should I go the faster 68000 or upgrade to a 68020?

thanks

i've purchased Radius 16s with 68881 for work which are a little costly but
operates smoothly. Adding a Radius TPD through their Magic Bus was nice and
easy too.

On the other hand, I purchased a Dove Marathon MSE3 (with 68881) for my own
Mac at home because it was almost $200 less. The Dove has its problems here
and there though, and I am particularly annoyed that it breaks Turbo Pascal.

As far as speed improvement goes, I can't tell the difference between the two.
However, Dove requires 4 Megs on the accelerator board for maximum speed.

Radius 16/68881 $725.00
Dove MSE3 $589.00

I recommend the 68020 way so you can run the optimized Mac II versions of
software such as StatView II and Mathematica and WingZ and...
