[comp.sys.mac] Pool of Radiance help & hints needed

This reply contains a few minor spoilers. Read on only if you
don't care... Also contains admonishments to pirates. Don't read
if you approve of pirating.

If you haven't bought the game (i.e., pirated it) then you don't
have the decoder wheel, so tough. I'm sure that if you lost it, SSI
would probably replace it if you showed you bought the game.

The text of proclamations, tavern tales, and journal entries are in
the "Adventurers Journal" (sic) booklet that comes with the game.

Nope, but there are plenty of restoration scrolls around, especially
in the graveyard... These guys are tough and it's a pain even with
the scrolls, since being restored only puts you 1 EP over the start
of the next higher level. Real fun when you were only a few
thousand away from going up again... I also think I found a bug in
the game (or my knowledge of AD&D is slipping). If you fully cure
someone and then use restoration, the old hit points do not come
back. My NPC HERO who used to be 5th level/43hp is now 5th
level/28hp. Ouch.

If that's all you got, there's a lot more. There's a monster
leaders area and also a bunch of trolls!

Buy the game. You'll be glad... This is one of the only forms of
copy protection I approve of. I can copy the game anywhere I like,
but it's useless without the decoder wheel. How are you even getting
into the game? Did someone make you up a table of symbols and
passwords? Or do you actually have the wheel and haven't read the
instructions enough to know how to look up journal entries, etc.?

Buy the game -- even with it's horrid interface, it's well worth the
$40 I paid for it. I have played well over 50 hours already and see
no end in sight (yet).
