I read an item in MacWorld US (Nov.89) that claimed an Australian company, Whitesmiths, had implemented POSIX (i.e. a version of UNIX) to run on 1 MB MacPluses and SEs although 2MB needed to run under MultiFinder. The implementation, called MacIdris (I can't start to guess the origins of that name!) was said to provide "a multitasking executive, interprocess communication, and C and Pascal development tools, as well as other UNIX utilities." No mention of whether you can actually run any applications on a Plus/SE as well mind you, and 5MB of disk space are required! The only route to further info in the short article was an American phone number with contact (i.e. Jean Batty at 301/657-3775), and that's a bit expensive from the UK on the off-chance. Does anyone out there have any further information, or even seen it in action/used it? Please mail me, and if there's sufficient interest/replies I'll summarise for the net. -- Chris Colbourn, Psychology Dept, Southampton University, SO9 5NH, UK JANET: pyi011@uk.ac.soton.ibm or cjc@uk.ac.soton.ecs INTERNET: pyi011%soton.ac.uk%nsfnet-relay.ac.uk TEL: +44 703 592589 (DDI) or +44 703 595000 x2589 TLX: 47661 SOTONU G FAX: +44 703 593939 -- Chris Colbourn, Psychology Dept, Southampton University, SO9 5NH, UK JANET: pyi011@uk.ac.soton.ibm or cjc@uk.ac.soton.ecs INTERNET: pyi011%soton.ac.uk%nsfnet-relay.ac.uk TEL: +44 703 592589 (DDI) or +44 703 595000 x2589 TLX: 47661 SOTONU G FAX: +44 703 593939
