[comp.sys.mac] DAs not working

dce@smsc.sony.com (David Elliott) (01/18/90)

Before you say "your DA Handler is missing or trashed", read on.

Recently, I installed Boomerang 2.0 and DfaultD 2.0 on my system (Mac
II, 8MB, 6.0.4 w/ MF 6.1b9). I began to notice that sometimes I would
select a DA and it would start to execute, but then quit with no
message. Restarting the system fixed this.

I removed DfaultD after having it crash on me in configure mode.
Sorry, John, but the old DfaultD had a major problem, and I'll always
be suspicious of it, no matter how useful.

This didn't help. I got into a state where DAs wouldn't run, and
trying to start a DA in the current application caused the application
to quit. I once got into a state where I was only running one
application, and it wasn't Finder!

Now, I've gone back to Boomerang 2.0b9, and I haven't seen the problem
yet.

Has anyone seen similar behavior?

Yes, I've seen the same thing on my Portable running 6.0.4. Rebooting
the machine cleared the problem up but I've not determined what started
the problem. I don't have any of the DAs you mentioned. The one's I tend
to use are: MiniWriter (very old version), TSTimer (TimeSlips), SmartAlarms
and Appointments, and the Control Panel. I've others in there, but
those are the ones that get used.

When I find the time I'll try and figure this out systematically but
if someone already knows the answer I'd love to hear it also.
