[comp.sys.mac] 6.0.4 upgrading for SE

wiseman@tellab5.TELLABS.COM (Jeff Wiseman) (01/19/90)

There has been discussion on the benefits of upgrading to 6.0.4. Nearly all of
the discussion seems to be centered around the 020 and 030 machines though.

I have an SE vanilla, 2 flopper with some external drives. No 32 bit color, no
worries about installers and disk swapping. No appletalk or networks. I'm using
6.0.2 and Hypercard 1.2.2.

What are the SPECIFIC advantages for ME to upgrade to 6.0.4? Won't this just
hog more of my system heap space by installing more RAM based patches into my
memory? Patches that I am not sure are necessary for me.

AND NOW for a different but related question...CAN I PURCHASE A NEWER VERSION
OF ROM FOR MY MACHINE? If this is possible, the RAM based pathes shouldn't load
I wouldn't think. This way, the fixes will be in THIER rom space instead of MY
ram space. How many versions of the ROM exists for the SE anyway?

And MOST important, is there ANYONE out there that can answer any of these
questions?
