I'm looking for a way to capture the postscript output from Word 4.0 so that I can do some postscript postprocessing before printing. I guess I need a way to dump postcript at a Laserwriter as well, huh? All hints, suggestions, or magical incantations are welcome. Thanks. Mark

Mark, Try Command-F or Command-K when issuing the Print command from Word. Then use Adobe's SendPS or CE Software's LaserStatus to download to the PostScript printer. Fabian Ramirez SuperMac Technology fabian@cup.portal.com sun!cup.portal.com!fabian

To get the PS output from most Mac word processors, do what you would to print to a laser printer (whether one is actually connected or not), and just as you hit the last "OK" button to have it print, hit Command-F (or Command-K if you want the LaserPrep stuff included). This will save a file called something like "PostScript 1". To later send the PS to the printer, one possible application to do so is called SendPS, which I think is available through anonymous ftp on sumex-aim.stanford.edu. Erik A. Since you already have Word 4.0, you can use that. Just put your postcript text into a file, select it all (opt-cmd m) and select 'postcript' as the style. You can select postcript as the style from the menu in the ruler (where it usually says 'normal') If Postcript isn't visible in that menu, hold 'shift' down while you select the menu. Then when you print the document, the text itself won't be printed, but its effects will. Make sure the option 'show hidden text' in the printer dialog box isn't selected. Another way to get postcript output was given in the hints in a recent MacUser. Make a copy of your printer driver 'Laserwriter'.(!) Then using ResEdit, 'open as template' DITL 8191 (I'm 99% sure that is the right one). Then scroll towards the bottom of the list. you should see a field with the command 'DISK FILE'. The four fields above this one define the coordinates of this check box in the print dialog box. They are initially all set to 0, so the disk file option is not available. The hint in the magazine said to change these to: 49 320 65 400; in that order. I did it and it worked, but it doesn't include the laserprep stuff.
