[comp.sys.mac] What happened to Calendar 1.7 DA?

hobbs@ntmtv.UUCP (Greg Hobbs) (01/19/90)

I am trying to find out what happened to the Calendar DA.
The copy I have is version 1.7 and the about information
contains the following:

	Mosaic Codes
	Suite 2036
	2140 Shattuk St.
	Berkeley, CA 94704
Copyright @ 1986 by David Oster
	(oster@lapis.berkeley.edu)

I have tried, without any success, to contact both Mosaic
Codes and David Oster. Does anyone know what became of
either one?

For those of you who are familiar with this DA maybe you could
help me. The DA does exactly what I need except for two
features.

	1) Ability to print hard copy calendars in a variety
	   of formats.

	2) Ability to import/export data via a text file.

If someone knows of an upgrade to this DA or another DA that
does what I need I would sure appreciate it.

Thank you,

Greg

There is a version 1.8 of the original, but here's the docs from
a newer version called Cal 3.02:

This is Cal 3.02. It is a calendar desk accessory suitable for
solo use or for shared use over a Appleshare or TOPs network.

It is a permanent calendar, for any year covered by our
current calendar. It handles the fact that 2000 is not a
leap year but 1900 is (the division by 400 rule.)
You may associate up to 32k of text with any day.

Cal has on-line help, just press the Help button in the
About box. It also tells you which day of the year this is
and the number of days remaining in the year.

Text is stored in a calendar database consisting of one
master folder. Inside the master folder is a separate
folder for each year, inside that up to 12 folders, one
for each month, and inside that are up to 31 text files,
one for each day. Since each text message is any separate
file, people can change different parts of the database
simultaneously without fear.

You may have many calendar databases, just use the Open
button to select the one you want to use. Cal remembers
it, so you start up using that one next time.

Cal periodically checks to see if other programs have
changed the calendar database, so it can be used on a
network.

If you write protect a calendar database in the Finder,
then only you will be able to change that calendar database.

Also in this posting is a companion program, "Calendar Tools",
which can convert calendar files from my earlier "Calendar"
program. It can also pack an entire calendar database into
a single text file for maintenance. In fact, it can convert
from any of the three formats to any of the three formats.
Calendar Tools can also set Cal's week to begin on any day,
for you users outside the U.S.

Cal is shareware. I am asking for $15.00 for the first node,
$15 each for the first 10 nodes,
$14 each for nodes number 11-20
$13 each for nodes number 21-30
$12 each for nodes number 31-40
$11 each for nodes number 41-50
and so on down to
$2 each for every node after 130 (U.S. currency please.)

Don't pay if you don't use Cal. If you do use it, but just don't
like it, pay and complain, and I'll do my best to resolve your
complaints in my next version. If you use it, and like it, please
send money and praise.

If you have already sent me money for Calendar, my previous
calendar program, please deduct that sum from your check for
this program, and tell me so. Even if I didn't cash your check.
At my old shareware rates, I couldn't afford to buy enough of my
own consulting time to answer every letter. This is my way of
apologizing, and thanking you for being loyal customers.

CE Software's Calendar Maker program can import old Calendar
data files, so you can print with that, for the moment.

I'm sure this is on most services like America Online (I'm sure it's
there), GEnie, CI$, etc.

Good luck,
