[comp.sys.mac] Low Cost 1Mb SIMMs: Who are reliable dealers?

jlc@atux01.UUCP (J. Collymore) (01/06/90)

I am about ready to upgrade my Mac SE's 2-1Mb high profile SIMMs for 4-1Mb low
profile SIMMs. I have heard of a number of dealers that sell 1Mb low profile
SIMMs for about $70-$80. What I'd like to know is, are there any dealers that
I should avoid, and if any of you are particularly pleased with a dealer you
have bought such SIMMs from, would you please post or e-mail me their names,
phone numbers and the methods of payment that they accept?

Thanks a lot.

I just bought 2 Megs of 80ns low-profile SIMMS from Technology Works.
It installed rather easily. I was quite pleased. Total cost for 2Mb. +
UPS BLue Label shipping was $188.

When I bought the memory, the salesperson told me that I could also call
the 800- number and ask for technical support.

The most interesting thing was when he asked me where I had learned of
them. I asked, "Have you ever heard of USENET?" He said that he had.

There was an ad in MacWeek last month for fast RAM at $77/Meg. When I
called the price was down to $72 (this week it's advertised at $71).
Total cost including 2nd day air and credit card surcharge (3%) was
$151 for 2Meg.

The place is Peripheral Outlet in Ada, Oklahoma; 800-332-6581 or 405-332-6581.

The latest MacWeek has an article about a deal between Technology Works and
Ashton-Tate. If you buy 2 megs of RAM, you get Full Write Professional 1.0
for $39. If you buy 4 megs of RAM, the program is included in the $350 price.

The article also says that you get a free upgrade to Full Write Professional
1.1. Of course, this isn't a great deal if you don't need a word processor.

This is true; I just ordered 4 MB for $350 + $10 UPS Blue shipping and
received FWP 1.0 free. The FWP package has a sticker saying that when
you send in your registration card, they will send you a FWP 1.1 upgrade.

Not a bad, deal, assuming you're looking for a word processor (which I was).

I ordered from this outfit late friday (1/5) 4MB for $280 + 3% for
visa, + 6.5 for 2nd shipping. Four meg for under $300. I got
it Late wednesday - and it si SOO nice to have 5MB! I only wonder
about their packaging - they didn't put the simms in one of those
anti-static bags, just the bubbled type. But they are working!
