[comp.sys.mac] replacing Apple with ATM fonts: ATM doesn't notice?

allbery@NCoast.ORG (Brandon S. Allbery) (01/23/90)

A few weeks ago, I posted a pair of notes asking about how to replace Geneva
and Monaco with fonts that ATM will associate with PostScript font files. I
have since replaced Geneva with Helvetica, after an abortive first try that
was torpedoed by the bad format of the screen font files on sumex-aim; with
Font Harmany in hand, I tried again and now the screen fonts are correct.

But---despite using a modified copy of the Adobe Helvetica FOND---ATM does not
scale the fonts the same way it does the real Helvetica. (I am using the same
screen font file for Helvetica, and it scales fine.) I even copied the
PostScript files and renamed them to "Genev", etc., and it still fails to
scale them properly. And ResEdit 1.2 doesn't display the PS font name in any
readable way (I assume it's hidden somewhere in theTables in hex). So I'm
stuck. Anyone have any hints? (Again: changing the application font won't
help, I'm working with applications that ignore the application font.)

(On another note, I finally figured out what Monaco is: it's Letter Gothic.
If I can get Geneva/Helvetica working, I'll shell out the $$$ to Adobe and get
the LG PostScript font.)
