Does anyone have a binary patch that will stop the AppleShare
INIT from clearing the screen? Why does it have to do this
anyway?
Alternatively, how early can AppleShare run in the INIT sequence?

The screen is cleared when they initialize the Window Manager in their code. This is done because the INIT may bring up a dialog requesting the password. This is strictly against MacDTS guidelines, but they do it anyway! What I've done is to rename it xAppleShare so that it runs at the END of the INIT sequence. Its much less irritating this way (although xAppleShare then is last in the Chooser list too). Andy Peterman

It didn't catch all the icons, nor did it catch color icons, but it did work for the most part. I also found this behaviour annoying, as it overlayed my (non-standard) StartupScreen, and the icons of any INITs which might have happened to have run before the AppleShare INIT. My solution ? I run AppleShare *first*, so that all my INIT icons are together on one screen. It doesn't seem to cause any problems running first, as long as you get the order on your other INIT's consistent (i.e. if something has to run before Suitcase, make sure it does.) Please understand that Persistence comes with no guarentees and no warrentees (and you thought Apple's warrentee period was small!) so use it at your own choice and have fun!! Oh, since Persistance needs to load before an other INITs which clear the screen, we suggest you rename it with a couple of spaces in front (or use INITPicker to reorder your INITS!!) - I only work with Allan, but it's all Jordan's fault!
