[comp.sys.mac] Help: Converting Draw II File to PostScript File

zeng@cs.ubc.ca (Tao Zeng) (01/23/90)

I drew a picture with MacDraw II. Since this picture is part of a Latex format
paper, I need to transform it into PostScript format so I can "kermit"
it to SunOS and intigrate it into my paper. The problem is,
unlike MacDraw I, DrawII doesn't have "Print One" command and I
cannot use "C-f + Print One" to pruduce PostScript file on Mac. Does
anyone know how to get around this problem?

Your help is highly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Tao Zeng <zeng@cs.ubc.cdn>

MacDraw II doesn't have the "print one" command that MacDraw had,
but you can still use the same basic technique you described.

Just select "print..." and, immediately after clicking "OK,"
press and hold Command-F or Command-K [one of these dumps
Laser Prep along with the document's PostScript, but I can't
recall which just now. The filesize will tell you which is
which]. The LaserWriter print window will say "Creating
PostScript file..." instead of "Looking for..." and
somewhere on your drive a "PostScript 0" file will appear.

Using command-K and command-F will stil work. Butt as it has been
mentioned before, you can modify the laser driver so that a disk file is an
option. Briefly:
Make a copy of the laserwriter driver.
Using ResEdit, open DITL 8191 as a template (in ver. 1.1 of resedit
and earlier, use open as -then select ditl from the list.)
Scroll down to the bottom, you will find an edit field that says
Disk File. Above this are the four edit fields that determine the position
of the checkbox, they are initially all 0, thus the option doesn't exist.
Change the four zeros to 49 320 65 400 (or any other reasonable value)
	Save and quit.
Rename this driver uniquely (not laserwriter, thats taken)
	Drag to the system folder.
It now can be selected with the chooser.
The print dialog box will now have a Disk File checkbox.

Use print... instead, when the dialogue box appears hold down C-f
while you click on OK, It works, I did it yesterday, the resulting
ps file is now cheerfully imbedded in a UN*X file, as always background
printing must be off and ---NO OBJECT MAY BE SELECTED--, if any
portion of the drawing is selected Draw II tries to interpret the
C-f as move to front and sits there waiting for you to release
the OK button so it can do it. Also hold down C-f until the "creating ps
file" message appears in a dialogue box.
