[comp.sys.mac] Is it time for comp.binaries.mac.d?

geoff@pmafire.UUCP (Geoff Allen) (02/02/90)

There seems to be a bit of traffic here about the newsgroup
comp.binaries.mac. Here's what a grep on our news spool directory just
turned up:

28503:Subject: Posting GIF Converter to comp.binaries.mac
28630:Subject: Posting Fractional Width Fkey to binaries

27 articles in the last week and a half is not overwhelming traffic, but
is it enough to justify creating comp.binaries.mac.d?

What do folks think? Should we make a formal Call For Discussion, or is
it not worth it?

Looking at the traffic, I don't think that it is a big enough problem
to worry about. I would be more concerned with the 50 out of 690 (on
my machine) articles that are crossposted between comp.sys.mac and
comp.sys.mac.programmer.

These 20 articles are a one-time uncommon type of flow, whcich does not
really warrant a group being created.

These articles are really not necessary at all. The posting will be
seen when it arrives in comp.binaries.mac. The author probably wants
to attract the comp.sys.mac attention, and therefore would not put it
in comp.binaries.mac.d anyways.

This didn't show upin your grep, but is the biggest offender. I don't
think that we could get them all out of comp.sys.mac. After all, you can
get the missing/bad parts either by ftping sumex (and others), or by
sending mail to the moderator, Roger Long and telling him of the problem.
