I have a question for mac gurus: say that there are a lot of macs on a network which share a laserwriter, and say that a lot of users print out things which take up a lot of PostScript processing time on the Laserwriter. Would it be faster to create 300dpi bitmaps on the Macs themselves (with a Mac-based PostScript interpreter) and then dump those bitmaps to the LaserWriter? I know that this would be faster in the case of various font magic; creating a 300dpi bitmap font and then printing from that is very speedy indeed. Has anyone looked into this issue? Perhaps with the advent of a multi-tasking System (that's a really scary thought) this wouldn't be such a bad idea. Comments? -- Just try taking your VAX down to Jiffy-Lube these days!
