I bought a Quantum 40mb hard drive from a company called Optimal Technology Corp. That drive is now having flaky start-ups (only comes up when it is in a good mood), but has not yet crashed. It came with a two year warranty, I bought it in June 89. Optimal Tech has apparrently gone out of business (if anyone knows different let me know), so I called Quantum to see about getting the drive repaired. They said that the drive was sold to Marshall Industries and the warranty was 'passed' to this company who had the 'option' of honoring it. Marshall says that they will not honor the warranty unless Marshall sold the drive directly to me. Optimal is in MA, I bought it while in CA. Does anyone know if my warranty is really no good or are these companies playing with my head? Please e-mail me any advice or similar experiences. BTW, are Quantums prone to this kind of failure? sad with a sick drive, john matthews jmatthew@cssun.tamu.edu
