[comp.sys.mac] Need some pointers converting files with binhex 4.0

I have recently made my first attempt at converting a file from
comp.binaries.mac, and I was unsuccessful.  I am not very proficient with
the mac yet, so I was hoping that someone could offer me a few pointer on
how to go about doing this.  I was trying to download the file using
Microsoft Works 2.0, and was having nothing but trouble.  I did capture the
file using the capture text.  Can I edit and convert this file?  Do you
have any suggestions on easier ways to download a file?  And how do I
convert the file once I have it on disk?  Any help would be greatly
appreciated.   Thanks in advance,
