#{v_mac.6} I have been unable to complete the hard disk installation procedure for the Vicom comms package, as described in the manual, and am being repeatedly obliged to insert the key disk on launching Vicom. Overall I am very happy with the program, but this problem is becoming a serious irritation, as I am using the modem quite frequently. Attempting the hard disk installation gave the result: o Following the manual procedure fails with the message 'Hard disk operation failed: Could not open the installed copy for writing'. o The only way I could get Install to work was to copy Vicom from the key disk, and then run Install, which said it would overwrite the existing copy on the hard disk; although this appeared to complete successfully, I am regularly told to insert the key disk on launch, as it is not an installed copy. o Trying to remove the 'installed' version also fails with the message : 'Hard disk operation failed: You may not remove the specified installed program with this protected master'. o The key disk is not write protected, and no other applications give any problems with my hard disk. I have mailed and e-mailed the support department over the last six weeks, but have received no solution to the problem. As I have a properly paid for and registered copy of Vicom, this rather cheeses me off; if they don't know the answer, they could at least spend 15p on a letter to say so. Has any other Vicom user encountered this problem, and found a fix for it? I am using a Mac SE/30 with System 6.0.3, with the latest version of Vicom (3.2). -- Another Fine Product from <mcvax!ukc!icdoc!bilpin!jim> <jim@bilpin.uucp> {JimG : Hatfield, England} Time for a snack

#{v_mac.6a} IN ARTICLE: <2517@bilpin.UUCP>, jim@bilpin.UUCP (JimG) WRITES: > I have been unable to complete the hard disk installation procedure for > the Vicom comms package, [ description of problem deleted ]. As a conclusion to this original posting of mine, AM Computer Technology offered to replace my key disk, promising to send me a replacement by return of post. This they did, and this has resolved my problems ( well, my problems with Vicom, anyway ). -- Another Fine Product from <mcvax!ukc!icdoc!bilpin!jim> <jim@bilpin.uucp> {JimG : Hatfield, England} Never take your socks off last
