[comp.sys.mac] HELP! LaserWriter IISC Drop Characters Randomly.

glf@sppy00.UUCP (Hill) (02/22/90)

------------------------------------------------
I'm having a rather odd problem with my Apple LaserWriter IISC and I'm hoping
some kind net-persons will recognize the symptoms and can give me some
suggestions or solutions.

The problem is that certain text combinations won't print when using
applications such as SuperPaint (Draw/Text mode) or PageMaker or ANY
application other than MS Word.

It occurs mostly when I attempt to use either some Style Type other than Plain
(such as Bold or Outline) or when I'm using a font that's 18 points or larger.
It most often occurs when I have a page that has 18 or 24 point Outlined text.

What happens is that either none of it prints, or that only one or two letters
appears. For example, if I have a page with a banner on the top that reads
"The This-n-That News," what actually prints is " h a N."

Also, on a page full of text, combined with larger font headings or maybe text
in boxes, the first line of some paragraphs don't print (or rather prints as a
blank line). All boxes and graphics print OK though. The same document won't
print the same way twice (but may print correctly only one time in 20, if at
all). It's all so random and arbitrary.

For some reason, test cases I write up ALWAYS work under MS Word, and NEVER
work under any other application.

I'm using a regular Mac+, 2.5 Meg memory, System 4.3, Finder 6.0, and
LaserWriter IISC version 1.1 printer driver. I've got the Mac "scuzzied" to a
DataFrame20, which in turn is "scuzzied" to the LaserWriter IISC, which
*DOES* have a terminator on it.

So ... does this sound familiar to anyone? PLEASE!? It would be nice if
I could actually make full use of this printer.
E-Mail would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
