[comp.sys.mac] RESEDIT and deleting the WDEF virus from desktop/sys file

casey2@cunixf.cc.columbia.edu (Raymond B Casey) (02/23/90)

I've been told that I can use RESEDIT to remove the WDEF virus from my MACII's
hard drive by deleting something (sorry about the vageness). I've run SAMvirus detect on my harddrive and have been prompted to remove the offendingg fileand replace it with an orginal. The corrupted file is "desktop". Not knowing how to replace the desktop file, I simply propmte SAMvirus to repair the file. It
seems to have worked, however I'm not comfortable not knowing exactly what was
"repaired". What exactly has SAMvirus done to the desktop file? How could I have used RESEDIT to accomplish the same end? And was I misinformed about using
RESEDIT on the sys file to rid my MAC of this annoying and harmful antigen?

p.s. Where may I find more info (documentation) on RESEDIT and the dekstop
      file?

Thanks in advance for any responses.
