[comp.sys.mac] Request for anti-virus sw

craig@sli.com (Craig Woods) (02/23/90)

Situation:

Our site has WDEF (I think): our Mac is virtually useless - font's are messed
up, the machine crashes regularly when {leaving applications | copying files |
using scrapbook}, and the printer and modem regularly disconnect from Fleetwood
(the Mac). We do not have ResEdit or other tools to analyze the System/desktop
file/resources so we have no way of knowing whether this is WDEF or not. (I
sure hope this IS WDEF, otherwise our system is REALLY messed up :-)

I've seen some questions/references to re-building the desktop as a way of
(temporarily?) combating the virus, but this has no effect on the Mac's
reliability.

We have sent for a Virex upgrade to combat the virus; Unfortunately, we sent
for it via U.S. Snail mail, so it may take weeks to get here. As an emergency
shortcut, I am submitting the following...

Plea:

1) Are the products Gatekeeper 1.1.1, Gatekeeper Aid 1.0.1, Disinfectant 1.6
public domain software?

2) If so, would someone please mail them to me? (We are not on the Internet, so
I can't FTP from anywhere (can I?))

3) If someone does mail this software, could you include some instructions for
unpacking software from the Net? Our UUguru recently left the company, so
no-one here knows anything about unpack, unshar, unhex, or any of those other
un-holy sciences. This task is complicated by the fact that the mail will be
received on a Vax, FTP'ed to a Sun, and converted to Mac format via TOPS.

I am hoping to be able to get the Mac up over the weekend so that we can
publish our software manual next week. Mail explaining the impossibility of any
of the above steps will be appreciated, if anyone can stop laughing long enough
to reply (You want to do WHAT!?!?).

Many thanks in advance.
