The following information is extracted from an article in the Feb 26 issue of Macintosh News. "According to Apple documents seen by Macintosh News": On March 19 Apple will announce the Macintosh IIxi Features: 40MHZ 68030 6 Nubus + 1 32-bit direct slots 2 I/O processors DMA on the SCSI port RISC-based graphics accelerator using AMD 29000 running at 30MHZ New Quick Draw giving 30% [only 30%?] performance improvement Price: approx. $10K Upgrade from II and IIx available [doesn't say when] New version 2.0 of A/UX Can access unix shells in a Mac-style window Supports 32bit QD and Multifinder New 8 and 24 bit video cards 8 bit can be upgraded to 24 NTSC output [I think, this isn't stated implicitly] This information is condensed and possibly rephrased from the Mac News article. I take no responsibility for the accuracy of any of this. This sounds to me like a pretty impressive machine. It won't satisfy the people that want a 100MHZ 68050 for $1000, but I'd take one. (I'd have to be given one, I don't think we can afford it!) Kurt Kohler Internet: kohler@jacobs.cs.orst.edu Asset Control Systems, Inc. Corvallis, OR
