[comp.sys.mac] Laserwriter woes

cmm1@cunixa.cc.columbia.edu (Christopher M Mauritz) (03/01/90)

Hello world, it's me again. :-)

I have updated my MacIIcx and the others in my small LAN to
Laserwriter 6.0 and laserprep 6.0. Now I am suffering from the
following problem:

First the setup:

2 MacIIcx's with E-Machines Big Pictrure mono monitors, 2 megs
RAM, System 6.0.4

1 Mac SE, 2.5 megs RAM, System 6.0.4

Apple Laserwriter II

My MacIIcx is connected to the Laserwriter, the other MacIIcx and a
fileserver using a Kinetics Fastpath 4 ethernet box. The Mac SE is
connected only to the fileserver through an internal ethernet card.
These are the only machines that ever print on the Laserwriter.

Now the problem:

From time to time, on all 3 machines, I get a message stating that
the Laserwriter was initialized with an incompatible version of
Laserprep. I then get the option of re-initializing the printer (very
time consuming) or cancelling the print. I have checked the
versions of Laserprep and Laserwriter on all 3 machines and they
are the same. It is becoming a major nuissance since the Mac SE
often cannot handle it and crashes after re-initializing the printer
(giving me a System Error = 2). What am I doing wrong?

ACK!!!! It is getting worse! I fear I may have some sort of virus, but
Disinfectant 1.6 reports no problems. sigh....

Help!!!???
