Recently a number of people have asked about cross-referencing and bibliography software that works in conjunction with Word 4.0. I have used WordRef, a program that is economical, easy to use, and robust. As I am in the very final stages of completing my dissertation, I can comfortably say that without WordRef, the entire experience would have been much more difficult. WordRef keeps bibliographic references in 1 or more Hypercard stacks and uses Word's print merge capabilites for cross-referencing and completing bibliographic citations. Your document may consist of more than 1 Word file (I used a different file for each chapter.) The WordRef stack can export references in BibTex format, so the stacks can also be used to organize references for other programs as well. It also comes with a handy WordRef Browser DA that can be used for adding citations to your text. Among the better features of WordRef is the responsiveness of its author, Mark Nodine. Mark never failed to respond to my questions quickly, no matter how stupid or naiive. In addition, he incorporated some changes I requested in subsequent versions of WordRef -- made my life even easier. I think WordRef represents one of the best values in Mac softare (it's only $25.00). You can ftp WordRef from the sumex archives. My only contact with WordRef and its author is that of a happy & satisfied customer. Mike
