[comp.sys.mac] Questions, questions...

oppy@unrvax.UUCP (Brian Oppy) (09/10/87)

Hello, just another set of questions from another ignorant new user:-)

First of all, I purchased my Mac + without any external storage, so I would
have time to decide if I wanted a second floppy, or hard disk. I have
decided that a 2nd 3.5 drive will suit, but don't want to pay for the apple
name if there is another brand which will work just as well. Someone else
asked this question a short time ago, but there were only a couple of postings
I saw on the net in answer.

I would like *any* information which people will send about 3rd party 800k
disk drives, both good and bad. If I get any response (please e-mail), I
will post a summary on the net.

Next: Who out there is using Assembly on the Mac? Where did you get a hold
of an assembler (as far as I can tell it didn't come with System Tools or
Utilities)? What is the best reference book (I don't need anything really
low level - I have used assembly on other computers)?

Last: Hypercard - I ordered my mac directly through the University, and
from what I saw of the shipping inventory, Hypercard was supposed to be
included (It was not) - would it have come in the macintosh box or would
it be boxed seperately? The reason I am asking is to see if I might have
not been given something I was supposed to have gotten when I picked it up.

Salutations, Brian Oppy

Is there any way to send mail via InterNet to a GEnie account? I just saw
a message sent from CompuServe, I was wondering if there was a similar linkup
with GEnie.

On a completely different subject...

Is there a version of UnSit available that will work with StuffIt 1.5 files
(i.e., compressed hierarchies)? The only version I can find works with
StuffIt 1.3.

I noticed in the recent GEnie Livewire (a small written publication sent to
GEnie members) that on page 11 there is an article about the new "TeleJoke RT"
... Well, it says inside that the roundtable is linked with USENET, so I assume
it's sending/receiving from rec.humor (or some joke-type group) ... GEnie
must have e-mail setup if they can post to netnews, but i havn't heard anything
official.
