Does anybody out there have experience with the SE Silencer from Mobius? It's a replacement fan for the Mac SE that is supposed to cut way down on the annoying SE hum. I have two questions: (1) does it work? (does it really cut down or out the hum?) (2) Is it easy to install? (They claim it "snaps-in." Charles Moore

I too had the good old SE "Aircraft Carrier" fan from hell, but did install the Mobius fan when it became available. 1) Yes it did work, cutting down noise by my estimate 60%. 2) The soldering was a breeze (no pun intended), but I recommend a SMALL pair of needle nose pliers to take the holddown nuts of if you don't have a 3/16" box wrench available. I am a very happy customer, I no longer get the fan shimmy that I used to get and the machine is much quiter. -- Jim von Schmacht Senior Member, Project Test Staff Ashton Tate Corporation Disclaimer: Standard Issue -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It isn't the years - it's the mileage" -Indiana Jones

I don't know how any kind of replacement fan for the SE can 'snap in', on my machine the power wires from the fan are soldered directly to the power supply board. Unless the mean 'snap in' in the sense that you cut the two wires and snap some kind of tap on the remaining leads, it would sound kind of tricky. I just had a potentiometer soldered into one of the leads for a while, and it worked just fine. Anyone else do the same? It's a little cheaper than a $45 replacement fan. PS: Thanks, Apple, for screwing us old SE owners over with the fan and than charging us $95 to get it fixed. Ever new a newer SE model? It's a lot quieter than the old one.
