Does anyone have any experience using a server on a regular macintosh appletalk (i.e. phonenet) network (passive one) with a server such as the Jasmine server? The server would be used for both loading application programs and storing user files, in a network of about 10 macs - located on three different floors of a building. I would like to know if this is a viable alternative for a Mac network - as opposed to placing hard disks at each of 8-10 macintoshes. Obviously the disk access will be slowed down quite a bit - due to the inherrent speed of the appletalk net. I believe that if we were to install such a network, it would be slooooow. (commments?) I know that the SCSI xfer rates far exceed the actual transfer rates that appletalk renders - but I just would like to know if anyone has tried this before. Also, does anyone know the realistic transfer rates of appletalk? i.e. after the overhead of protocols, headers, etc. thanks please email responses. -- =============== regards 'mark ============================================= Mark Ahlenius voice:(708)-632-5346 email: uunet!motcid!ahleniusm Motorola Inc. fax: (708)-632-2413 Arlington, Hts.
