A short story. I got Nisus today. Now if you're anything like me, you know how necessary it is to get into your new programs right away with ResEdit to get rid of those annoying TM symbols, and just to peek around. Wingz, Excel, and Word are pretty disppointing; they don't use resources like MENUs, DITLs, etc. But Nisus does, so I changed some things here or there. Then I looked at a resource type I hadn't heard of before: DKEY. ResEdit opened one up and showed that it linked dialog items with keys. "Very nice," I thought, "the Mac finally has a standard method for this. Good for Paragon for using it." I kept going through the resources till I saw another type I recognized: TMPL. "But those are only used for modifying ResEdit," I thought. Then I saw a TMPL for DKEYs, and realized, "DKEYs are not known to ResEdit or the System--they are specific to Nisus. Paragon provides all the proprietary resource formats for customizing Nisus!" I wonder, did they include the TMPLs on purpose? It's nowhere in the manual that I can find. -- Jay Lieske | Dept. of Geology, Princeton Univ. jhlieske@phoenix.princeton.edu | Princeton, NJ 08544 in exile in mid jersey | (609)258-3827
