My officemate just purchased an SE/30 machine today and we have some questions about warranty etc... The machine is an SE30, 4 meg, 80 meg demo machine that was for sale at the campus computer store. The box was already opened and supposedly was used minimally, not as a loaner and supposedly pass as a 'new' machine. The machine is supposed to have a new warranty (the salesperson thought 90 days, but I corrected her with the new info about the 1 year warranty.) This all seemed great so he bought the machine for $3200 and we brought it back to the office to try it out. We first checked the serial number and noticed that it didn't match the one on the box/receipt. He called the store and informed them of the problem immediately. They said that they could not find the machine with the box's SN and they would work something out. They agreed to have the purchased machine checked and get a new 90 day applecare for it at their expense or he can return the machine and get his money back with all bets off. The price he received was about $800 less than the normal campus price here ($3989), and it was about $400 less than their original asking price for this machine ($3679). He wants to keep this machine because of the low price paid, but believes he deserves the 1 year warranty on it because it was bought today 3/16/90. Does anybody have any suggestions for dealing with this? Can someone at Apple comment on how warranties are handled for demo equipment?
