I use a Plus, so you'll want to verify this, but if you added four 1Meg SIMMS, they have to go where the 256K SIMMS were (bank A), and the 256K SIMMS have to go to bank B. Also, in the Plus at least, there's a resistor you have to cut to tell the computer that the SIMMS are 1Meg SIMMS and not 256K SIMMS. I assume that there is something similar in the II as well. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Price | Internet: price@uclapp.physics.ucla.edu 5-145 Knudsen Hall | BITNET: price@uclaph UCLA Dept. of Physics | DECnet: uclapp::jprice Los Angeles, CA 90024-1547 | YellNet: 213-825-2259 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Where there is no solution, there is no problem.

Greetings, fellow Mac Users. I have a couple of questions: 1) What would cause Multifinder to think it only has 1 Meg of memory on a 5 Meg machine (Mac II). Should I reset the PRAM or something. Are there inits out there that may cause problems with Multifinder? 2) I have a friend that's interested in simulating a NeXT window environment on the Mac. I've seen stuff like NeXT color window def. and it works great. What he also wants is the scroll bars (aka sliders). There is something called NeXT scroll bars at sumex, but it's old and won't run on any Mac using Color QuickDraw. Does anyone know of any new programs, inits, etc. that could meet these needs? Thanks in advance. Andy (aloh@ocf.berkeley.edu)

If so, did you follow the correct procedure? (a) Remove the four 256K SIMMs. (b) Insert the four new 1 Meg SIMMs in the same slots that were previously occupied by the 256K SIMMs. (c) Insert the four 256K SIMMs in the four slots that were previously empty. It must be done exactly this way, or your memory will not all be recognized by the Mac II. -- Dave Seaman ags@seaman.cc.purdue.edu
