[comp.sys.mac] Macs and GIF's....HELP!

-------

Got a question that I'm hoping *someone* out there may be able to help
me find the answer to. I'm having trouble
displaying GIF pictures on my Mac IIcx and I can't figure out why.
These are GIF's that I've downloaded from
various BBS'. Some work fine, LOTS of them don't...in Giffer it just
aborts during the load and displays half
of the picture; in VisionLab it just gives a "Bad LZW code" error and
aborts. Okay, I would assume these are just corrupt
files and leave it at that except....these same files work just fine
on a friends' IBM, *and* on another friends Atari ST,
*and* even on my old Atari 8-bit!!!! Try to open a file on the Mac and
I get a "LZW code error"...modem that same file
from the Mac to another computer and that computer displays it just
fine. What gives here? Why is the Mac so damn
fussy? Has anyone else experienced similar problems with Giffer or
VisionLab? Does anyone know of a better (ie - less fussy)
GIF viewer for the Mac II? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
