[comp.sys.mac] DiskCopy problems?

stevec@Apple.COM (Steve Christensen) (03/24/90)

It sounds like a number of you are having problems with the DiskCopy
application. I, of course, can't duplicate the problems I've read about,
but I still want to know about them so that if what you're seeing is
programmer error and not pilot error, I can try to fix it and make everyone
happy.

So...if the problems persist, send a DETAILED description of the problem to
MacDTS@Applelink.apple.com (not to me...pleeaassee). That is, "I was doing
this and this and this, and then it did this, which I don't think is right."
Be sure to include what kind of Mac you were running it on, how much memory,
etc. If you're using a 128K or 512K Mac, you can guess what the response
will be. :-)

DiskCopy will work on a 1 meg Mac--if you're a masochist. It requires around
839K of RAM in order to copy an 800K disk, plus a bit more for the application
itself, so what with all the other things that live in RAM, it's a tight fit
to get everything in. At least 2 meg of RAM is definitely the way to go.

OK, so now you've got it running and want to make a disk out of that image
file. Select "Load Disk Image" from the File menu and do the standard file bit
to find and select the image file. When it's done, click on the "Start Copy"
button, insert the appropriate floppy disk and away you go.

If you get an error somewhere along the line, that's because something's not
right, like there's not enough available RAM to hold the entire image, or
you forgot to un-write-protect the floppy, or the floppy itself is of
questionable reliability.

So send your cards and letters to the above address and they'll bundle them
all up and drop them on me.
