I read with interest the recent thread on "font menu sanity", but was unable to comment on un-announced products. Adobe is now advertising (at least in the May issue of our magazine :-) a $65 software package called "Adobe Type Reunion" (formerly "Family Reunion") that will reorganize your font menus for you. It strips all of the leading prefixes from font names, and just shows the base family name in the Font menu. A hierarchical menu is available that lists all of the stylized variants (bold, italic, semibold, demi, etc.). Finally, there will be a solution to one of the Mac font limitations (support of italic, bold, and bold italic variants), and you'll see a lot less clutter in your font menu (now that scroll down to Zapf Dingbats won't take so long...) If you want an example of how ATR works, check out how the Smart Art DA does its font menus. (Is it an interesting coincidence that Adobe just bought Emerald City Software, the makers of Smart Art? :-) One thing I should point out is that the product is undoubtedly not yet released, so don't bug Adobe for a while yet. (you should never plan on purchasing a new product until its ads run for at least six months :-) ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// / Robert Hammen | Technical Editor | Personal Publishing Magazine / / 191 S.
