Do you need to reproduce equations, overprint different characters to create neat effects, change typefaces? Do you need to organize mailing lists, small databases, set up small account- ing system for a business of professional office, do budgeting, communicate with remote computers (such as using Dow Jones or Tymnet)? Do you need to write your own software? In BASIC or FORTRAN with maybe an occasional assembly language routine? Are you less than impressed with the relatively crude and obscure word processing software available on many of the 'in' micros? Then you may want to purchase a DECmate with LQP02 daisywheel printer, WPS word processing, list processing, communications, and OS78 single user disk operating system. I have one that's in very good condition and only 20 months young. The price? Well, that's the best part - $3300 complete. I bought this system new, and used it while I was a graduate computer
engineering student (I refuse to stand in any line for anything, least of
all a Cyber). Except for a series of Pascal programs for my Queueing Systems
class and using the editor for my thesis writeup, it has been used quite
infrequently and (according to my wife) is taking up too much room in our home.
It has been well-maintained. It is complete, including all cabling, and
is ready to begin using.
